CRAUN Research Sdn. Bhd. is delighted to announce the birth of its formal corporate website “CRAUN Research”. The CRAUN Crop Research and Application Unit was established on 22nd July 1993 by the Sarawak State Government.
Upon the approval of the Sarawak State Government on April 1st, 1997, CRAUN was corporatised and known as CRAUN Research Sdn. Bhd. Sarawak sago industry enjoys a competitive edge because of continuous R&D programmes by CRAUN to chart new findings which will enhance its value.
CRAUN continues to provide information about sago and also on its other activities especially on vital research and development findings. We are now utilising the opportunities offered by the new electronic environment to reach millions of internet users, particularly sago producers, processors, customers and users around the world.

CRAUN History
CRAUN was established on 22nd July 1993 by the Sarawak State Government. Upon the approval of the Sarawak State Government on 1st April 1997, CRAUN was corporatised and known as CRAUN Research Sdn Bhd. CRAUN began its operations at the Food Technology Research Laboratories of the Malaysian Agriculture Research and Development Institute (MARDI), Sarawak Branch on 15th February 1994.
On 1st July 1994, the Farm Management & By-Product Utilisation Section of CRAUN began its operation at the 1st and 2nd floor, Lot 500, Block 68, Mukah New Township, Mukah and on 17th September 1994 Sungai Talau Research Station of the Agriculture Department Sarawak, was taken over by CRAUN. However, the overall operation of CRAUN Mukah Office has been sited to Sungai Talau Research Station since August 2011. CRAUN’s headquarters at Lot 3147, Block 14, Jalan Sultan Tengah, Kuching, occupying approximately seven acres, commenced construction on 17th November 1994 and began its operations on 11th September, 1995.
By virtue of the Sarawak Gazette Part II dated 22nd May 2017, CRAUN Research Sdn Bhd is an agency placed under the Ministry of Education, Science and Technological Research and Biotechnological Council.

Introduction
(+)-Calanolide A is a novel non-nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitor (NNRTI) with potent activity in-vitro against the human immunodeficiency virus type 1 (HIV-1). The compound was first isolated from a tropical tree (Callophyllum lanigerum) found in Sarawak.CRAUN is entrusted by the State and Federal Governments (MOSTI) to manage the further development of (+) Calanolide A (an FDA-registered Investigatory New Drug (IND)) through the many phases of drug development (Drug Development Process).The project is managed through collaborative work with internationally accredited and highly experienced contract research organizations (CROs) and consultants in many areas of specialization. These include drug manufacture, drug formulation, preclinical safety, clinical development, intellectual property etc. – all within the strict regulatory environment of a drug development programme.
